should i get the skimmer

hey guys

well anyway i found a cool protien skimmer for a really good price that is the right size for my tank. I have a fw 22o with some cichlids. i dont think i am going to go into sw anytime soon and i know that skimmers are pretty pricey, would a skimmer help my fw tank at all ?

Protein skimmers don't work in freshwater. It just doesn't usually foam like salt water unless it's treated or extremely filthy.

There are some new freshwater skimmers but I haven't heard anything positive about them. Maybe that will change one day.

Agreed. That plus the fact that SW tech changes so fast, you might as well save that money and look for a similar deal down the road.

if you're looking for water clarity go fr a diatom filter for freshwater. That will give you the deisred effect. if you're going for the ability to remove more waste, increase mechanical media and try an algae scrubber.
