All the pics of L273 I see are bright yellow/orange colorful plecos. But these L273 look washed out. Will their colors darken/get better?

Depends how much and how big, from what I heard, their color will not improve.

Wait for a good colored one. They rarely brighten up. The exceptions are cave sitting males get brighter colors (but not more) and one of my females has gotten very light (she acts like she wants to lay eggs). Here are a few of my 10 L273 9" - 11" in a 300G species tank. Normally most L273 darken a little with age (particularly their head).

Agree with recumbent. Most l273 won't improve. In fact, most people are happy if they just maintain their colors. Since most will get duller as they age.

Ive vey only seen them improve colors in 3 situations.

1. When they are stressed. This is true with most plecos. You'll see a lot more contrast when they are stressed.
2. When they are dying. Pretty much same as above.
3. When they are ready to make babies. Had a female that was gravid. Fat as can be, but sure had pretty colors.

Recumbent, those are the best cokoring 273 i've seen.... Hope u get eggs soon. Not to derail but do u get ur caves from plecocaves? You should post pics of ur larger l177s, been wanting to see big ones
