I have a 29 gallon saltwater aquarium I have been running for about a year now. Everything has been fine, but the filter and protein skimmer are big eyesores. Should I invest in a sump?(or at least something to put my filter and protein skimmer in under the tank.) Sorry if I did not write this very clearly. Thanks:)

it would help solve the eye sore problem and give added water volume to your system that will help maintain water quality and stability.

+1...theres no reason not to have a sump, especially if you want to clear some stuff out of the tank.

I made mine...fairly easy. Make sure you order your glass thick enough though. My baffles werent thick enough, and now I dont have any. :(

Fleshy, what happened? Did they break?

I also made mine and used 1/4" glass for my baffles and made a refugium in the middle. Ones that you can purchase are super expensive. You can make one really easy and customize it to your needs.

Make one. Buy an aquarium and install the glass baffles. If you can allow room for it include a refugium. Don't use clear glass, go to a glass shop and buy the darkest smoked glass they have. This will keep the light from the fuge from growing algae all through your sump.

I have an Eshopps overflow box and am very happy with it. I did make a few modifications to it to get it even better, but I would happily buy the same one again.

Go with a tank. It will be easier to work with. A ten gallon is ~$15 so nice and cheap.

This is exactly what I'm doing minus buying the Eshopps overflow box; I built my own overflow box but its modeled after the Eshopps one.

Make sure that you size your pump correctly and account for the tubing in your calculations in order to get an ideal flow rate.
