i have this FH that has been sick for the past month or so. i believe it swim bladder infection. he lays on his side all the time. hes gotten skinny, and his colors are pretty much washed out. the thing is he still eats like a champ. and always swims right side up when i approach the tank with food, and takes food down as soon as its thrown in.

i just dont know if i should put him to sleep or keep him around even though hes sick. i've been trying to get him better with constant water changes, salt treatments, but nothing works.

should i put him to sleep or let him live.

here he is in his prime

Dont give up on him, try this treatment and see if this helps you out- this helped out my friends FH

wheat germ pellets aka koi food- helps his digestive tract. you can also try: Metronidazole, but dont feed him while he is on METRO. clean his tank water everyday when you use metro. Give him a day or two without metro so he can have a bit of rest from the meds.

Do not over use metro! 1 500mg pill per 10 gallons. a little epsom salt, daily 1/3 water changes, and turning up the heat to 80 degrees- Take out filter media if you have one, hopefully that will your baby. And please keep us updated on him.

no picture of him now. i will first try the koi pellets, and give him a week on that, then if that doesnt work i'll use hte metro. will update when i can, thanks guys.

I agree with this treatment..
internal hexamita is what would be causeing your fish to be skinny.. the flagellates consume all the nutrients from the food that you feed your fish..

And Epsom salt - magnesium sulfate( make sure it is epsom salt, not any other salt )
It has great healing properties.. It can draw out fluid from the swim bladder..( also a great treatment for popeye)
Make sure you do daily water changes as it also works as a laxative and will dirty your water.. ( ammonia etc can rise, PH can drop )
Use 1.25 teaspoon of Epsom per 5 gal maximum..

Day 1 - add the Metronidazole to water according to Dosage.
Day 2- 20% changing aquarium water.
Day 3 - add the Metronidazole to water according to Dosage.
Day 4 - 20% changing aquarium water.
Day 5- add the Metronidazole to water according to Dosage.
Day 6- 20% changing aquarium water.
Day 7- add the Metronidazole to water according to Dosage.
Day 8- 20% changing aquarium water.

Good luck.. I'm sure this will help..

any updates about your lil one?
