Hoovering south of the ham
In a tank I keep at work I have 3 SilverDollars, 2 Severum, 1 Oscar. I want to put more fish in the tank. The tank is 65 gallons. The goal is big and more colorful, which seems to mean more aggressive. LFS told me overstocking is a good way to lower aggression but I would have to stay on top of water changes. LFS had 2 Veja? and 1 nice Texas that I was considering. Is this a good idea? What are the problems?

I'm guessing the fish must be small atm so it seems like more fish will be ok. I recommend not adding anything else, you're stocked/overstocked now. The O will grow very quickly and it can almost fill up a 65 by itself. Eventually, you might even end up taking out some fish when they grow up. Problems you'll face are aggression and massive bioload.

If you got rid of the oscar, a texas might work as far as size goes, but then you run into aggression problems, but you also might leviate some bioload problems as oscars are big pooping eating machines. A 65 isn't very big for a vieja to live with anything.

As far as I know, all Vieja's grow in excess of 12" so that proves that a 125G is best suited for them or bigger. A texas will need a bigger tank (75G+) as it ages. Your best bet would be to remove the oscar and add some more colourful fish.
