I recently gave away my blood parrot and catfish to a guy who's just messaged me to say I could have 4 new born oscars once they reach an inch or two. I would love to have oscars in my 4ft but i currently have 3 6" rbp's and 2 jack dempseys. anyone think it would be worth selling the P's and switching to oscars? I'm seriously considering it but don't have much experience with oscars.

I had two Oscars in a 4ft when I was younger had them for ten yr , was cramped once they reached 12" + though , no chance of keeping all 4 for life but a good grow out project Oscars make great wet pets they greet you when you approach the tank and can be trained easy yo hand feed , good luck :D

Oscars are great fish!:) But you don't need 4...and sometimes it's very very hard to even keep two in the same tank when they are adults. I had two in a 150 gallon tank...and all they did all day long was fight.

Of course if they are raised together from an early/small age/size...there's probably a better chance that they won't fight...or at least be more tolerant of each other. But as has already been said...4 full grown adult oscars in a 4 foot long tank (which could be a 55 gallon, 75 gallon, or maybe a 90 gallon) is just to small for these guys.

On the flip side...if the Oscars are small...and you want a breeding pair...it is always recommended to buy like 5-6 Oscars (when they are small)...so that your chances of getting a pair are enhanced. But once you have the pair...then you remove the others...and get rid of them (sell or give to LFS)...or put them in another tank.

With all the options available, I agree, 4 oscars wouldn't be my first choice. Assuming you'll eventually get a bigger tank you should definitely go ahead and get 1 or 2 oscars. However, I personally would suggest getting other fish as well.

i would wait until the oscars are in your possession before you start selling/giving away all your fish. I'm not saying that the guy is/was going to cheat you our of fish or something i'm just saying that anything can happen especially with small fish and being so susceptible to disease or other things, but as far as 4 oscars i'd say no. Not only would they have an enormous bio-load they'd all have to get along and fit together for life (unless you plan on upgrading) a 75 is min. for an oscar as they wouldn't fit in the standard 55 for life. However if i'm you, and you were thinking of an upgrade this is a great excuse, also raise the oscars til they get pretty good size on them and if you haven't upgraded/ are close to upgrading sell them.

Cheers for the advice! Think I'm
Going to start a fresh, use the 75g as a grow out and if I get a pair out of them then brilliant - an excuse to upgrade to a 6x2x2. The other two my dad can have if they don't get along. And if the pairing fails then I'll just keep the best looking one :) much appreciated!
