Should I try plants? Moving my 55g Cichlid tank

I am about to move my 55 g tank and am thinking about adding plants to my aquarium. I current have 2 severums about 6", a 5" electric blue jack dempsey, 3 silver dollars and 3 cory cats.

I know cichlids are known to dig plants up.

When I move my tank from the basement to the living room, it will be the perfect time to swap the substrate. Will I be able to make a planted tank with my stock list, or is it not worth trying?

I wouldn't worry about your cichlids digging up your plants so much as I'd worry about your severums and silver dollars eating your plants. You could plant the tank but you may effectively be limited to plants like Java fern and Anubias that are unpalatable to fish.
