Should I wash my Florite/Floramax/Eco Complete?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I washed my eco complete SOME...I know that your not supposed to...but nothing bad happened to me. Eco complete does come with a little packet of clarifyer to settle things out in your tank a little faster, but if you plant right away you will notice a fine dust settling on your plants when the water is fully clear.

I would suggest running your system for 24hrs with the lights off before planting with eco complete.

Don't wash eco-complete...mind as well just buy normal gravel because you will be washing away what you just paid for.

Plants will be awhile, but fish are already in.

it depends what your substrate is.

Going to be mixing it up. Going to use all three. Just have to find black in all. So far, Florite is all that red clay color and I need it black. The first will be the Florite-Max as that is the only one I could get my hands on. Having to order the other two.

you rinse Flourite because it is a dusty clay product, and will cloud your water if you don't (and it will still cloud it some, even if you do)

you don't rinse eco-complete because - - in theory - - it comes packaged in pro-biotic water that supposedly helps jump-start your conditioning process . . .

not sure why you'd want to use Flourite and Floramax . . . I think they are essentially the same thing (?)

I think the whole "brazilian water" thing is hocus pocus. Its the same as live marine sand. I washed mine...nothing bad happned. That being said...theres really no reason to... I did because I was switching substrates and didnt want dust all over all of my plants.

it may or may not have some value, but in either case, I agree, there is no reason to rinse eco-complete . . .

un-rinsed eco-complete will settle in just a few hours anyway . . . in fact, the settling is part of the process, since eco is made up of two different size particles . . . the denser particles settle first and make up the base, and the smaller ones then settle on top of that
