Can you all post about what size tanks you have on a second floor.

I have two 125 in different rooms on the second floor.

I am debating to get a double stacked 75g. Wrought Iron stand that holds one tank on the bottom one on top.

I live on the first floor of a house, but there is a basement underneath me.

No I am concerned about the weight. Will be about 250 pounds heavier than my 125's but the surface are the tanks cover will be a lot less. The tank will be positioned on the corner of two outside walls. Outside walls are built of brick and walls running down the basement are cement. Will be running parallel with the floor beams. Floor is made with 2x10's I believe however I do not see extra support beams anywhere.

So you think I am ok? or should I give up on the idea?

can you put them in the basement? I had a 90 stacked on a 65 on a steel stand at my parents, but it was in the basement.

with two 75's you have the full weight of a 150g setup in the area of a 75 - like you said, very concentrated weight and very heavy.

unless you reinforce your floors, I wouldnt do it.

or, put them in the basement.

then, get a 220 for the basement too. :)

We need to make a weight / tank placement sticky...!!!

I am short on time at the moment... but if you do a search of past threads you will find numerous post on this... Search me and you find at least 3 threads....

mm

You have 125's on the second floor? Do you have any additional floor support for them?

(I'm kind of new to the larger aquariums and the only one I currently have is a 180 on the basement level of my house.)

I mean I could put them in the nasty un finished basement that I never go down to, but I kind of want to look at them.

and to a few post above, I have my 125s on the first floor sorry, but there is a basement underneath it.

Guess Ill just find space to put another 75 somewhere else instead of double stacking it

I have a 300 in my apartment. I live on the second story. I just made sure I put it against a load bearing wall and so far it's been up a couple months and it's ok.

a little more reassuring.

thanks.

Ill still have to wait and see if I am actually going to do or not.

I also know a guy who has a 300g on the second story of an apartment against a load-bearing wall and has had no problems. Personally, I would probably lose sleep over it, but it can be done.

Jowens at one point had a 125, 120, 20L, and a 55 on the third story of an apartment. All but the 55 were in the same room too.

why not just brace the floor and never worry about anything ever again.. it will cost you like $80 in lumber at HD...
