Hey guys I was looking on eBay and I found some Silver Arowanas for 29.99 and I really want on. My main question is if I should get one. It will go in a 20 gallon tank until it gets big enough to go in my 900 gallon pond. I have always admired arowanas but where I live I have never found one under $50. I have not yet bought fish online before and I would love your opinions on if I should get one. Any advice would be nice.

if its cheap then get it!

How big does it need to be to go into your pond? You can't keep a silver in a 20g tank for long. Buying online for 30 bucks is gonna cost you more then 50 bucks when you figure in shipping costs.

Thanks for the input and when he/she goes into the pond what do you suggest to cover it?

Of coarse the pond needs to be covered. Seems you aren't quite ready, probably best that you pass until you've done a proper amount of research on arowana.

The arowana should be about 4-5inches and I want to wait for it to get used to me and grow about a few more inches because of my oscars might beat up on it. And for the covering what type of material should I use?

The arowana shouldn't be mixed with oscars until it is 10-11" and at that time it should be twice the length of the oscars.

Hard to give advise on covering a pond when absolutely no information has been given about the pond :duh:

Well the pond is 12' by 5' by 2' which is about 900 gallons. I was thinking making some small pillars to use to drape some netting over the pond.

Ive seen some ponds with no lids/ net above before but their wall of the pond are high you can try it too

20 gallons will not do for an arowana because i think a good size to put an arowana in a pond would be at like around 16" a 20 gallon will not fit on till then
