I have a 26 gallon bowfront tank I am looking to become my first Saltwater Tank. I am doing a few fish and live rock. The question is... When I get the live sand, Should I start the tank with just live sand in it? Or should I wait till I have the extra money to buy the live rock and do it all at once? I would think just the saltwater and live sand so it can start cycling?

+1. Saltwater has an expensive learning curve. A damsel fish can help you cycle the tank tho as they are basically unkillable. 25 lbs of live rock should run ya around $125 or so.

I have wanted to get into saltwater for some time now just haven't had the chance to. I got the 26 gallon bowfront from a coworker who is moving out of state to Ohio. The tank is brand new. The wife bought me the stand for Christmas and a hob filter so...it's on! I am taking baby steps (also because I do not have the money to be sinking into this all at once). Already have the instant ocean salt, hydrometer, aqueon 50 filter, maxi-jet 1200 power head. I ordered the live sand and a heater from drsfostersmith.com. Next is the light and live rock. I think at a time. Thank you for the help once again.

The only problem I see with damsels, is that if its not part of your final stock, it becomes a hassle getting out of tank with a net
