What species are the synodontis and plecos? Have you noticed any aggression from any of those tankmates?

2 spotted royals
2 dull eyes
1 syno euphars and 1 angelicous
the shovelnose usually mind its own business never seen it fight wit the other cats like how the royals fight once in awhile

Still need the two answered. Do the other fish display aggression towards the shovelnose at all? I am inclined to suspect the jardini and jag. How big are all these fish? High nitrate level and temperament issues would be the main culprits for the barbel damage.

I noticed yesterday my Lima shovelnose's right long whisker was cut down to about 1/3 of original length. It happened overnight, and the only explanation I can think of is it got too close to my hydor koralia #4 water pump while searching for food (only tank mates are small silver dollars at the moment). I'm hoping it learned its lesson and won't keep doing this every-so-often...

I've been treating the tank with half-doses of melafix since a day or two prior to the whisker incident (one of the silver dollars fins looked pretty bad so started treating for fin rot). Going to continue half-doses of melafix for another day or two just to make sure all is well.

Relax on the Meds. Just add salt, and bump the temp and keep the water clean. Most likely the dat got a nip at it while feeding. It will grow back.
