I'm thinking about trying to set up a newly acquired 235 gallon with about a dozen small [2-4''] Red Piranha and a Shovelnose or Red Tail.

The RT would likely grow to fast and eat anything in the tank but I'm hopeful about a Shovelnose. What do you all think?

I don't think so. If the RTC was bigger than it might work then he eat them.

Pretty much what I already knew. I think that'd be an awesome set-up.

Thanks for the welcome. I have quite a bit of experience with large fish both marine and freshwater but never really kept Piranha aside from my childhood days of keeping one in a 10 gallon.

I remember my childhood 10 gallon as well...what a disaster:ROFL:

Really if you want to keep other fish with pirahna, they have to be of similar size/temperment or well armored. If not, there is a pretty good chance of the other fish being picked on/killed. Of course the other way around, a huge cat is going to start eating the pirahna

Hey....15'' Oscars really DO feel at home and comfortable in a 10 gallon, eh?

I'm open for any suggestions anyone would have as for a suitable tankmate for a shoal of Piranha. As I said I'm new with Piranha and need all the help I can get.

my guess is that the catfish would get nipped to death. unless he was large enough to swallow them...
