Will a shovelnose cat live with a JD and a Jag?
If not then what other bottom dwellers are a good choice? Thanks

Yeah until it gets big enough to eat them. what type of shovelnose? The jag might be a little to rough for a young shovelnose. a dempsey will get about 10 in. for male 16 inch male jag. so the shovelnose can be about 18 inches for the dempsey 24 for the jag at adult sizes. meaning at 7-8 inches bigger then the cichlid, it can look at them as food. some like m. tigrinus can be 5 inches biiger o consider them food. how big is the tank?

it is a 55 gallon and I was also thinking on keeping a channel cat instead if the shovelnose did not suit.

i personally wouldn't put either in a 55 with those cichlids your talking about some major aggresion between them...........plus both of those cats get too big for a 55..........especially that channel...............
