I havent seen ANY pictures of glow in the dark items w/ a black light in the tank. I have a 55 gallon tank that I am thinking of doing this to. Spencer's gifts has 4' black light strips on sale for $20.00 which gave me the idea. Inspire me with your set ups! ... that is if anyone out there has one.

as a manager at a spencers im suprised the store has come up in the forum.

well any ways ive tried this with a walmart brand blacklight <not dissing spencers or anything> i brought gravel that i though was reflective, but i guess not and was nothing special. it was a cool moon light though.
i would like to see a pic of it succesfuly done though!

If you do it, I would suggest only using the blue plants, and none of the retarded tie dye crap I used.

Here's my six gallon when I set it up as GITD:

That blue does look pretty sweet. Have you tried any type of gravel that glows or a glow in the dark background?

spencers also sells blaclight paint... paint the back of the tank

I would think all the particles in the water would glow giving it a cloudy look?

Yeah, forgot to mention that. The water does look cloudy with only the blacklight on, so it would be best to have a small white LED strip, sort of like mixing actinics with 10K in SW tanks.

You see the fish, yet the corals and what not get that flourescent effect.

HTH

btw, when I had it setup like that, I never tried any glowing substrate.

Hey Cohazard, I have the same plant in my GITD tank!! lol

I'm working on turning my 10 gal into a GITD, and I bought my sub at wal-mart, with the bright pink mix (meijer has all pink too) and I have a bright orange plant a friend sent me for Christmas, along with the blue plant like cohazards, and a green one...

I also picked up two packs of base-weighted plants (4.97 walmart) and the taller plants have light colored tops to them, and they glow as well.

They have black and purple UV gravel, the purpleglows yellow. Or maybe white would work.....

I think www.fosterandsmith.com has phosperescant gravel too.
