Well since the fishing season is dwindeling down (for some of us) and the holidays are lingering. I thought it would be a nice change for us to show off what we use to catch fish. Whether it be fresh/saltwater gear, show us what you use to land all the pics we've seen in Cichlid Fiends thread Fishing 09.

I've just got back into fishing this summer after a 28 year hiatus, but I am going to be picking up more gear in the months to follow. I started out with:

6ft Medium Ugly Stick paired with a Shakespeare b/c
6'3" M Abu Garcia Vendetta paired with a Revo STXHS

I swapped out the Shakespear with a Daiwa Megaforce b/c and put it on the Ugly Stick. I will be picking up another Vendetta stick in the 6'9" M action and put the Daiwa on it. Lets see how you cats roll

I always want to post on these types of threads but I Keep two poles in the car and the rest of my stuff is in the "bass bus".

FWI-All my poles are ugly sticks and all I use for line is suffix braid 20-40lb. Far as reels, I just buy 30-40 dollar ones cause I go through 5-6 reels a year do to the fact I do alot of buzz bait fishing and that beats the heck out of them.

I notice you both have bait caster reels. Do you use them to cast ?

I know they are called bait "caster" but I cant cast far at all with mine. I switched back to spinning reel.

don't have time to post all my junk, this is some of it-

box of soft plastics on the left, with some skirted baits on top, boat bag in middle, left is muskie gear.

they are specilized according to line and gear ratio, you have to know how to adjust your brake, aswell as what weighted line and weight of lure used, if you know how to use them you will have no issues, (outside occasional backlash).

"if you know how to use them "

Yes thats my problem.

I bought one while back and it was a perpetual bird nest :irked: every time I tried to cast.

I bought one while back and it was a perpetual bird nest :irked: every time I tried to cast.

some basic tips-

buy the rated line it's specified for.

when tieing on a lure, make sure it's weight is covered for casting by the specific rod you bought (it'll be on the bottom along with another line rateing)

tie the lure on and snap the bail lock down as you would if you were casting, if the lure moves down really quick or almost not at all, twist the brake in quater turns until it's slow but steady pace.

there's also specific braking precedors that can be done by takeing of the side of the reel and adjusting different levers.

if it still doesn't cast right, make sure the line you have on isn't super old or in bad conditon, it should be completly changed periodically, i don't do it as much as i should for the amount of fishing i do, remember that when you've decided to call it a year for fishing with a certain rod/reel, strip the line and replace it next year.

some specific line types are less forgiving than others with tangles and birdsnests, flourocarbon is the worst for inexperienced users, a mono or braid should be used.

what model baitcaster/rod and lures are you using?
