I wish I still had pictures of mine but they are long gone. about 15 years ago my stocking levels reached a frightening level in my main tank and I became convinced that a protien skimmer would help even though it was a FW tank and we all know that dosn't work... I modified a Skelter HOB unit with a 1/2" solid acrillic rod in the middle of the reaction chamber and drove it with a needle wheel powerhead rather than the weak venturi set up it came with.

The first week seemed to confirm what everyone said but by week two the reaction started and I was emptying the collection chamber once a week. Water quality and clairity improved a great deal and I ran the system for about two years until I returned to a saner stocking level. I shelved the unit for a while before giving it to a friend with an 80gal salt set up. As far as I know he still has it.

Dont have any pics of my ''Missletoe Beltbuckle'', but it worked great!

My memory cards are at work but I used a nebulizer for an air pump and it has been running a 110 and several other air stones/filters for a long time now:D

I'll get some pix soon

(I'll have more for this thread as I LOVE DIY

dont laugh to much but here it is :screwy: :grinno:
this is the overflow hose for the overflow im making.
i siliconed 4 spoons on a straw at an angle then used a clothes hanger to hold it.
the idea was for it to spin like a sprinkler and spread the water around the media.
it kinda works "hard to show in a pic, might get a vid" but it doesnt work as well as i wanted.
oh well at least i tried.
watch now someone will get rich with my idea

So am I to understan that I'm not the only one to clean a paint roller that way? The first time was a mess but I've got it down to where I clean the thing and spin it dry at the last second. Not something you want to do with a parent or wife watching. It makes for a cool trick in front of drunk buddies at a painting party.
