Hi i have a almost 4 inch pleco im assumign he is common fromt eh pet store but im new to plecos and id like to see other's juvenile common plecos to compare.
L021 or L023 was the L number for the typical 'common' these days (Pterygoplichthys pardalis) although its not used as the species has been scientifically described.
The banding as you describe seems more typical of a Gibby (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps)
have a look at the below links or better still get a photo.
The plecos coming out of florida are likely to be hybridized aren't tehy? I mean a lot of them are from eggs that people collect and sell to the farms. I know someone who makes a decent little side income doing that.
