Hey whats up guys i opened a thread the other day about this wet dry i have. That i converted into some kind of over head filter system for my turtle tank. And i started getting ideas about what else you can use. or ways you could make one of these to be pretty efficent. So i thought it would be cool to start a thread putting every ones in the same place for quick veiwer latter. If you have a set up like this please post pics. And give advice on the pros and cons of this kind of set up. What you have used for media that works best exct. I will start. Nothing major a wet dry i put on top of the tank on a stand. With the pump in the tank and a hole in the side of the sump with pipe to drain back in to the tank. What you guys going on compile in this thread. if for some reason a thread like this has allready been made please delete.

That's sweet. I've seen it done with flower pots. That's my next diy...

I know you guys got some stuff out there to show off. I know that this in part should be in the diy section to. But this is more on topic. What you guys got show your stuff for indoor pond set ups or large tanks if any

ya no one? wierd

i know this kind of filtration is more popular in asia. Xander here on the forums has one on one of his tanks.

yours seems like it would be very loud you might want to get a pipe and valve to come out of the hole and go all the way to the water level. have the valve closer to the water level and hold a little water back so it dosent have that long drop. this will cut down the noise dramatically. or even just running a pipe to below water level if you dont want to risk overflowing your ohf.

Thanks guys for the replies. And thanks for the links i will check them out. I have checked out plenty of over head filters that are over seas for koi pounds and suck. JUst trying to get an idea of what if any one on here use. I have been a member on here for a few years and haven't really seen any one do it. The thing that i like most about it is if you used like a 55 for a sump you can utilize the hole tank filling it all the way up with water and media instead of only half way or so. Because it can not over flow. One thing to think of thow is when you shut the pump of some of the water drains back in to the tank so all of the media isn't submerged any more. As far as you saying that you bet it is loud. It is i mad it that way on purpose so it has a water fall sound. I have had tanks my hole life and i'm used to it and actually need it to sleep lol. And this set up is in my room. When i get started on my new bigger set up i plan on running the returns under water.

Well...its way easier, and safer to sump things this way. I have done it on agriculture pools...and large scale stuff, but nothing too pretty. I will see if I have any pictures that I can dig up.

Thanks for the responce. Im not concerned with what stuff looks like ya know. Im trying to just get a better understanding of how people do this which way they place media what kinda of media they are using. And different set up so i can compile information and build something nice cheap and afficent. Well not to cheap but mostly the cost being the media and the pumps exct. thanks again.

Any one else have any thing? I know you guys do some one has to. I know most people on here seen like this should be a cali forum but its world wide. Any over seas freinds to chime in thanks
