I'm getting my 90-gal in on next Monday. It's 48 x 18 x 24 with an AGA fluorescent strip...

Filtration = 140 lbs of fiji live rock, 50 gal diy wet/dry sump underneath. So way more filtration than is needed.

I changed my mind about the lionfish, instead I want one big showpiece. I was thinking tesselata eel, which grows to 5' 10" and requires a 180-gal at adulthood, that I would trade back to the LFS when he was approaching around 3 ft. Or a clown triggerfish for life.

How fast would the eel outgrow the tank?

Thanks for the input.

You are talking salt, right? You shoulkd dupe this into the slt forum as most of us are lost.
Personally, as a single showpiece fish in a 90g I would go with a gold ribbon soapfish (Aulacococephalus temmenickii) pic by Randall,J., It is a 16" max, predator, that likes nooks and crannies.

I know very little about SW since I never had a Salt Water tank, but if I would for some reason get a salt water tank, I have always really liked Trigger Fish.

some nice ones:

Odonus niger
Balistoides conspicillum
Rhinecanthus aculeatus
Rhinecanthus verrucosus

and

Balistes vetula too big for your tank however
