Hay all, well my ray is eating healthy a lot of blood wroms and is always scaveging for food. I really want to try and give him some shrimps to see if he enjoys them. The only problem is that my mom purchase shrimp that is already cook, but frozen. Can I feed him these in small portions? Well the real question is it safe for rays to eat cooked frozen shrimps?

yes mate every one feed frozen prawn/shrimp. its one of basic foods most ppl will feed.

some prefer raw as it holds more nutrients, but feeding cooked is fine.

you should be feeding a varied diet were possible.

earthworm/nightcrawler, prawn/shrimp, mussel, cockle, whitefish, pellet foods there are loads of stuff you can feed. feeding only bloodworm will not be enough for your ray he needs more.

any type of frozen food fish we can eat you ray will be able to eat, if he likes it that is.

if he wont eat it then please serch the forum on how to get your ray to eat new foods as it has been discussed MILLIONS of times!

Thanks well he is brand new and has been eating blood worms like thiers no tomorrow. So tonight I will feed him some shrimp.

cooked shrimp/prawns normally have a high salt content. and very often have sodium (meta)bisulfite . this preservative is associated with respiratory allergys in humans.
you may have noticed it it after drinking red wine you may feel slighlty weezy/heavy chested.
The one time i couldnt get any raw prawns , i fed frozen cooked prawns and within minutes my flower ray lost all its colour and its breathing was the fastest i have ever seen a ray breath. this persisted for about three or four hours. And i can gurantee it was because of the prawns.

so i do not ever feed cooked anything now.

on a seperate my flower ray got a treat last night of tuna steak off cuts. best not get hooked on this it would get expensive!

i feed frozen peeled cooked prawns to my rays and it used to be the main food until i started feeding pellets never had any problems

i still feed a very small amount now daily i dont even defrost them just throw them in frozen

same here, never had a problem with frozen prawn, never had a ray that would eat it raw.

i used to use it as a staple food for years no problem, rays always looked stunning and very healthy. im now moveing over to pellets as there staple as they love them and i only hear good things about them. but cooked prawn will always be on the menu.
