what kind of shrimp/crabs can i put with a pair of convicts? what im hoping for is something that wont get eaten by the cons and in return wont eat the con fry/eggs. is this too much to ask for?
i have a 30gal with 1 big cave, 2 small caves (cons cant fit in) and a clay pot. no plants yet but i will pick some up when i know of what i can add in.

Hey, welcome to MFK!
you say you dont want the crab/crayfish eating the fry or eggs.
This could be a problem when you intoduce a crab or crayfish to a mating pair of convicts. convicts will become supper aggressive to anything that invades their space, and will eat or kill a crab or crayfish. Plus, crayfish molt their shell, and for a few days will be soft and vulnerable.
If your mating cons, let them have their own tank.

I agree, a pair of cons will kill pretty much anything in a tank that size, vertebrate or non-vertebrate. They will bite your hand. And don't bother putting a super-agressive fish that should be able to "defend itself". The con's will kill it, trust me. A pair will work together to protect their sawn with every ounce of tenacityeht y have ;). Just enjoy them as a pair, lots of neat behaviors to watch.
