Your local market can be a great source of foods check the seafood section of the freezer
You can use just about any foods you find there including
mussels
shrimp
most fish filets (avoid salmon i think its to oily)

Available at the butcher counter or they should be able to order it for you
beefheart
and yes chicken gizzards
to prepare the above cut it into strips and remove any fat you can find
fish do not digest mammialian fat well-Anne

Ive been feeding plain frozen shrimp for a few years to my fish, saved a lot of money in the process, they are precooked but I bought raw one time and they all snuffed it, how spoiled are these fish?! Definitely a good plan though, jsut be sure to check the ingredients for preservatives and all that, should just say water salt.

thanks guys. just fed him and he LOVED it.

awesome, you'll save a lot of money from the grocery store too when getting their shrimp. At one point though they had raw shrimp on sale (grocery stores have way more sales than lfs too, sweet), fish wouldn't touch it, they liked the cooked stuff, spoiled fish.

do you feed them shell and all or do you peel them?

I feed them with the shell off. Mines don't like the shells and they just tend to end up cluttering the tank.
