I was wondering if it would be ok to keep shrimp in the bottom of a canister filter to help eat food from the messy eaters in the tank that would eat the shrimp otherwise. I figure they would be extra filtration. I tried finding info on it but it just seemed to be of people finding snails and shrimp in the canisters growing and living but they remove them and I want to keep them in there full time for clean up if that is possible. The filter is a sunsun if that matters. My plan would be to keep them in there eating and populating and if there got to be to many turn them into fish snacks I was thinking ghost shrimp or rcs.

They might survive in a canister filter, and someone might disagree here, but the thing is you aren't really solving anything. Just creating ammonia more quickly by having shrimp or anything else eat it. Also if they die you won't know till you clean out that filter. Really there's a bunch of reasons why I wouldn't do this, personally.
