In first place you have to base their dient on fish meat, cod fish, white fillet fish, squid fillet, some mussels and even salmon and shrimps despite their being oily, every onece in a while it's ok though.

In second place you can feed them with beefheart and chicken breast once or twice a month, not as main treat.

In you are able to make them to eat pellets good, I havent been able to make them eat pellets.

Do not stick to just one food source whatever it is, make their diet varied and you'll have beautiful fish.

Cheers.

Don't spoil them by always feeding them something they like because they will never eat anything else.

I raised my piranhas on raw shrimp, and about 2 years later i tried giving them a varied diet of shrimp, pellets, tilapia, and frozen beef heart but they would only eat the shrimp.

So I would start giving them a varied diet when they are juvies.

I'm just curious, why take them off live food?

prob cost n poss of parasites?

It looks cool when they are on live but they are not gettin the nutrian from the feeders or goldfish I say if you want to keep them on some kind of live i would say convict easy to breed and healthy for them but make sure you give them a varied diet

blood worms until they are about 4". just throw a nice size hunk in there and they will still attack it like a feeder.
also u could try all the frozen foods. like myself i switch up feeding my dwarf cichlid tank, i kno a lil different, but i feed them mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and blood worms, i switch it every time and they all are really healthy, no bloat and significant growth.
the reason i say blood worms is because its high in protien, lots and lots of protien but dont just feed them this because it gives them bloat if u feed it to them every time twice a day.
and they will like it so much they wont eat anything else.
oh and like armand said only give them beef and chicken once or twice a month because its got a little nutrients in it but not nearly as much as aquatic goods

I would feed them primarily shrimp. high quality pellets and beef heart as juveniles. The shrimp [shell on] will likely be most attractive to them and will enhance color. Pellets will ensure basic nutritional requirements are met and beef heart will make dime sized Piranha grow faster than anything I've yet seen.

Always vary their diet. I feed mine veggies, Hikari pellets, flake food, shrimp, dry cat food and live, whole fish.
