Shrimp vs NLS?

If you are asking from a sole source of nutrition stand point any high quality well formulated pellet would be the better choice. Shrimp while good does not contain all the necessary nutriants shrimp is also a source of Thiaminase an enzyme that breaks down Thiamin (vitamin b) causing a deficiency which will lead to several health issues if fed too much.

Didnt know that. But i thought a lot of ray, RTC, aro or dat keepers mainly feed shrimp.

It all depends on who you ask. Many people on this site prefer NLS over pretty much anything else out there. My Asian friends who raise Aros seem to be doing fine with shrimp as the main diet for their fish. I think it is better to feed a variety of food that would include both pellets, shrimp and many others.

I area that variety is the best way to go I try to change it up every day,but some fish have minds of there own and are only going to eat one or two things but they always seem to thrive any way

Overall nutrient wise, there is simply no comparison between market shrimp, and a premium pellet such as NLS.

With regards to Asian aros, most of the commercial farms feed a multitude of fresh seafood to their fish, not just shrimp, and certainly not frozen/salted market shrimp that we buy here in NA. In fact, one of the oldest aro farms in Singapore also feeds pellets.

IMO large predatory fish that refuse pellets can do well strictly on fresh/frozen seafood, but it is always wise to supplement that seafood with vitamin supplements such as Boyd Vitachem, or as previously stated stuff the shrimp with a good quality pellet to round out the nutrients.
