Hello im looking for an easy shrimp to keep and breed, im looking to breed them for interest, and also for feeders.

What shrimp, and what kind of equipment would i need to keep them.

I've got a spare 4ft tank.

Well ghost shrimp are the most common shrimp used, but nano shrimp are good. Japenese algae shrimp are too.

To keep and breed ghost shrimp, you will need lots of hiding spaces for the babies, and female and male ghost shrimp. The way to tell is to look for a red dot on one of their legs. The other gender doesn't have this dot but I think the male doesn't, and the female does. Other than that, their is no really important equipment to have except for a filter that doesn't shred them. Feed them sinkable wafers as food, or just fish food.

if the shrimp are in a tank on its own are hiding spaces important still?

You can also look for shrimp carrying eggs at the store. Thats what I did and got six cherry shrimp for the price of one. They are really easy to take care of, especially if you get some hornwort of other plant they can attach to. I don't think you need hiding places if they are by them selves although it would never hurt to have something in there for them to use.
