Hey guys,
I am somewhat of a shrimp expert. I breed crystal red shrimp (CRS), and cherry shrimps (RCS). Cherry shrimp pretty much breed under any normal conditions, and can even live in extremes (such as some ponds over winter). Great starter shrimp. It is not true however, that they breed every week, but they do breed pretty fast. It also depends if your tank is a shrimp only, or shared tank. Theyll hide less if its a shrimp only, and will only survive in a tank with fish if there are enough hiding places (such as a dense planted tank). LFS will usually sell em for 2-4 a piece, craigslist sellers usually sell for about a buck, and the best place to buy them would probably be on plantedtank.net. Just post up in the FS section, and you will usually find them for about .50 or less. Any questions on shrimp, feel free to pm me.

What kinds of foods do you feed the baby shrimp? Also, my ghost shrimp had spawn, but they were quickly eaten by the tetras in my tank. Would keeping cherry shrimp in a shared tank a bad idea?
I pretty much just feed my shrimp the same food all the time and have had great success. I use hikari crab bites.
It really depends. If your ghost shrimp were eaten, most likely you dont have enough hiding places, so they wont be able to sustain a population.
