I have always shut off my filters while feeding my fish. This calms the water and stops the food from getting into the filters before the fish can get to the food. The filters are only off for for 3-4 minutes. Do you see any harm in this? 1 - fx3 cannister and 1- 29 gal sump wet/dry setup. Thanks.

Should be fine.

I do this when I put 10oz. of worms in my tank...lol

if you fed pellets, all but the smallest will get stuck on the strainer, and most fish will learn to peck them off.

thats why i dont bother turning my filters off, unless im feeding worms or flakes for some odd reason. then i do as you, and turn filters off for 5-10 minutes.

never thought about doing that, my overflow kinda defeats the purpose of feeding flakes or floating pellets though.

Don't do it myself, but if it works for you great. I see your rational and it makes sense if you are having an issue.

I do this when I feed my fish. If I don't then food gets sucked into the overflows and into the filters. It does no harm unless left off for a half hour.

I never turn the filters off; I have no problem with the food getting pushed around in the current, since I have fish that feed at the top, middle and bottom of the tank

I have a betta in a 12G tank at work, and in this case I put in one of those feeding rings, which keep the food in a small contained area. it works very well, and when I open the lid to fid him, he knows to swim right to that spot
