Well I picked up an aimara a few months ago, he has grown double his size since then. Got him at 3" or so, now he is close to 6" or more.

My bone to pick with this fish is, he is not the bloodthirsty maniac that most portray the fish to be.

A recluse that hides behind the driftwood or the filter, doesn't eat very regularly, and is ok with tank mates, not one kill till date, neither big fish nor small fish.

The tank currently is a 50gallon, I have an intermediate tank a 90 gallon, as well as a 250 gallon for him, but he has to grow before he goes there.

The water changes are scheduled weekly 40%, pH is 6.8, temps are a bit high now 30-33 degree.

Filtration is at 1200ltr/hr,

Behavior may change once bigger. I’d think bigger than 12inches it’ll change. Happens with some aggressive fish.

I’d wait it out til he gets bigger. Personality various by fish too. My first aimara was not an aggressive eater but he always wanted to go after me. I was worried about my hand in the tank. My current aimara loves to eat but ignores me unless I taught him, and even then if I clean his tank I can push him away with the brush and he does nothing.

+1

Jib you if many should know behavior varies from fish to fish, and it isn’t uncommon anymore for aimaras to be compatible with other fish with proper space once larger. When smaller it’s usually easier. And wolves naturally being ambush predators, if given a proper spot to hide will do so.

Feeding reported is all over the place. Some eat good some don’t. Also it could still be settling in.
