Alright so I just have a quick question, I recently got a baby Oscar just a couple days ago and it swims around the tank, is energetic, and eats regularly (3 times a day)... except when I approach the tank, it'll swim away into its cave. The tank I have is a 75 gallon, and everything looks fine on him, and all-in-all he is a very active and healthy-looking Oscar. He's about 3 inches long. How long should it take for him to acclimate to me? Thanks

Just give the little guy some time. If you've only had him a few days and it's eating well already then that's a win for a start. Some new fish can be off their food for a while. It won't be long before it's acting like a puppy as you approach the tank.

I see you are only young, did you cycle the tank before you added the little guy?

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Each fish is individual, and yours could very from all.
What I have learned wearing light colors don't scare the fish as much as darker colors do. I am guessing the dark silhouette may trigger bird shadow must hide response.
In time he will come around and be on the glass at any slight movement begging for food.

Yeah the tanks been cycled for a good while I got it a little over a year ago and kept angel-fish in it and ended up upgrading them to a bigger community style tropical fish tank that my dad has because I figured they could be happier there in a even bigger environment. I've had an Oscar before and wanted to own another one because of their personalities and its first day inside of a fish tank it was jumping right up to anyone who came by and I just got curious with this one since it hadn't been nearly as outgoing yet. Thanks for taking away some of my concerns and thank you for welcoming me to the forum

Not unheard of, even tame fish can be a little spooky at first after being netted, bagged, tossed into a new tank, etc. Just give it time, I think. I've had fish a lot more shy by nature than Oscars get pretty tame after a while.
