Ok, my GT and JD, both about 2-3" hide in caves all day, come out to eat, then hide again. The JD used to be real social, he would come up to the glass when i walked into the room and greet me. Now they both chill together in a clay pot all day. Is there anything I can do?

Do you have any kids or crazy friends???All it takes is a few slaps on the glass by someone's hand, and you got scared fish....Maybe you have a dog that jumps on the glass when your not in the room
Try checking your water perameters. I had the same problem way back. Turns out, my then 3 year old brother kept banging on all the aquariums when I was at school

Yeah, JD's are a bloody sooky fish in general, but your GT definatly shouldn't be!!!
What are your water parameters? KH? GH? Temp etc...

They're little cichlids, hiding is what they're supposed to do. You know what you call a little cichlid in the open in the wild, dead.
Well as long as there isn't anything wrong I'm ok with them hiding, it's just more fun to be able to watch them more often than just feeding time.
