cichlid city
I have a 75 gallon with a 5 inch jaguar cichlid.he seems really shy,and is always hiding when somebody is around. Is there a way i can break this.I tried adding dithers.I put a 3 inch rd with him, which he seems to get along with, and a freshwater snowflake eel,but nothings changed.he chases the eel from time to time. Its gotten to the point where i havent even seem him eat in this tank.

advice is apreciated.

Hmmmmm...All my fish never do that (only RBPs :( )
I usually get my fish at smaller size 2"-5" and put them in their tanks without any big decorations or stuff they can hide in. They use to me being around and others and just loses the habit of having a heart attack in the tank. :)

Just give it some time, mines was like that for about a month when i first go him.

hopefully mine becomes a glass banger:headbang2

Your freshwater moray eel is actually a brackish water fish. Full grown adults should eventually be kept in full marine. How large is your eel.

Snowflake eels AREN'T freshwater they are often sold as such but need to be kept in med to high end brackish tanks with in a month or two in fresh water it will get sick and eventually die

Alot of jaguars act shy when little or new to a tank give it time when its older it will be more ot going also when its bigger it should be more use to you which should help just keep the tank the same and give it time

There is a lake by me that has big cichlids like jag cichlids among few others.
I have caught 3 of them with the biggest in this pic with a 4 inch lure.

Last time I was there a guy I was talking to who has a 1500 gallon backyard pond was telling me he has caught an Oscar -red Devil and jag cichlid there that are in his pond for over a year the only time he ever catches a glimpse of the jag and Devil is when he throws in the cichlid pellets other than that they hide constantly .

The pond is crystal clear 3 feet deep the fish hug the sides as they swim and when he comes near it they hide .
The Oscar he see's all the time .

Ofcourse this is a pond not a tank but I was suprised that such tough fish if given the option hide non stop while I keep fire mouths and Jewels outside in 90 gallon "pond" with clay flowerpots as caves and driftwood yet I see them all the time swimming .

ooops my bad lure is 3 inches not 4

ive noticed that also, how large cichlids are shy in the wild, but yet most are glass bangers or will aproach u as u greet the tank.
