Hi all
I recently got my first ray, he is now 5 weeks old
He is in his own tank 4x2x2, just a grow out tank ATM so I can be sure he's eating and stress free.
He will go into my 8x2x2 when he gets a bit bigger
Water is good ph-6.6, amm-0, nit-0, nitrates-5ppm
Doing 30% water changes everyday
When I brought him home he would only eat live blackworms but he's starting to eat frozen brine shrimp too
The tank has 3d background with sand and 2 small sized rocks and 2 air pumps for lots of bubbles
Anyway my concern is he spends most of his time buried in the sand, which I know is a normal behavior, but even when I go to the tank he buries himself.
Is it just shyness from a young pup?
He dosnt beg for food or anything like that
I keep the light off in his tank, to keep him calm I don't want to stress him
Nights I see him swimming round the tank playing in the bubbles but if he catches me watching he buries again
Sorry for the long rant just want to know if it's normal

in my experience this is normal, i had the same experience with my pups, now they are about 10 and 12 inch disc and not shy anymore, just that during water change my female does burry herself still but the male is swimming around and not afraid at all.

My rays are like that as well...some hide, some dont. Some never hid, now they do. Its definitely from me making my presence known in a negative way. When I'm feeding, no hiding:) when I'm change the water, about 3 of them go out of commission. I just try to make more of an effort to be around the tank more without disturbing anything at all. Have you considered tank mates? Maybe at least just one other?

Just keep everything pristine and he'll come around sooner or later to terrorize the tank non-stop looking for food.

Thanks guys that makes me stress less.
I'm hoping to get a female when one is available, I've got 2 gold severums I was thinking about putting in there but I'm too scared in case something goes wrong or they eat all his food!
First ray nerves I guess lol
