I have 2 male Umbees that are roughly 6". They are in separate tanks by themselves and both swim and hide as soon as i get 10 ft close to the tank. They are both very healthy and have been in the same setup for a few months now. Is there anything i can do to make them more comfortable around me???

Frankly, i'm getting sick of staring at the an empty tank everytime i walk into the room :headshake

Well what a difference 6 days make... After complaining about how skittish my umbees were the total opposite happened. A couple friends came over to watch the superbowl and one of my idiot friends kept knocking on the tank. I told him the fish is shy and leave him alone. I look over and my fish is literally trying to bite through the tank....... MY UMBEE FLIPPED A SWITCH and is now crazy as hell. I love it! video coming soon.

Oh wow, what a change. When cichlids are young some tend to be shy and skittish like jags then one day BAM, it's like they turn into a monster and you wonder what the hell happened.

that is exactly what happened. this fish never came out of his cave or hid at the top of the tank whenever anyone was in the room and now i can't even turn the blinds open without him running face first into the glass. I've decided to give away the other male and give him his our tank!
