I picked up this rescue African Brown Knife last night. I have him in a 20l QT right now. At the pet store he was very non responsive, sitting behind a rock, an employee when it to chase him from behind it so I take a better look at the fish and it just sat there and let itself be touched and scooted out from hiding. Both of the ABKs eyes are milky and he has a lot of discoloration on his head, it almost looks like late stage HLLE but without any of the pitting. He's been the QT over night and has been very active. I put a large cave in it for him to hide in but he's only gone in it one time and the rest of the time he's spent swimming just below the surface of the water. At times he will dart from one side of the tank to the other and he's either attacking bubbles or he's taking big gulps of air, its hard to tell. He's also been crashing into the corners of the tank (probably because of his milky eyes). I took a video of some of his behavior and its upload to Youtube right now. I would like to know if his free swimming instead of hiding is a sign of stress or a sign that he is comfortable in his QT. Also if someone can tell me what is going on with this head that would be very helpful. Like I said, this fish was a rescue so I understand if he is sick, I just want to know how badly and if I can give him a good quality of life for a while. After the QT period he is going to be moved into my 55g planted tank.
Oh, I also threw a few live ghost shrimp in the QT as well in case he preferred live food but so far he has ignored them.
