i have four angels in my tank a zebra striped a marbled and two pearl scaled ive had them for over a month now the two pearl scales are swimming very strangely the one is leaned up against the side of the tank at the surface and the other is completly on his side at the surface and both seem to be breathing fin and every once and a while the one swimming sideways will right himself and swim at the surface correctly for about a second. any ideas!!!? what it is how to help em.

Is your water ok? I have found Pearlscale angels to be more sensitive than other angels. If it isn't the water, it could be just about anything. Any visible problems like short little worms protruding from the vent, white spots, that sort of thing?

Also, you might want to repost this in a more general forum where it might get more attention (I'm not an expert on fish disease).

Do a big water change try 75%, before you do check your water to makesure yourr nitrates and amonia and such are ok, treat the tank with salt and see what happens good luck

my ammonia is 0ppm, i just ran out of nitrate and trite test strips, i hesitate to do a large water change because of the other tank inhabitints (2 other angels a balla, a clown knife and a pleco). since they are doing fine i set up my 2.5gal tank and used water from the 75gal to fill it. one of the angels has made a miraculous recovery not a complete one but is swimming upright but doesnt swim away from the surface much. i got jungel fugus eliminator and added it to the 2.5 gal and put the sick angel in there. he is currently breathing shallowly and laying on his side on the bottom. every few minutes he will struggle a bit and get off the bottom.

well i put one in the hospital tank with a brand new heater and the medicine and the heater apparently doesnt work because overnight the temp droped to 70F so even if the medicine was working he died cause of the low temp. the other is still swimming awkwardly but is doing much better. i cant decide to be pissed off because the heater didnt work or sad because i lost a decent sized angel... for now both

is there enough oxygen in the tank? if they're all at the surface gasping then id put an airstone in there. if you have a canister filter on the tank sometimes oxygen is sucked out... also they could have swim bladder disease. try feeding less or not at all for a couple days or if you shell some canned peas mix those in with their food if they're eating at all.
