Hey all-

So on Thanksgiving morning I found my largest Archer fish at the bottom of my tank upside down. I moved him to a quarentene tank and raised the salt to 1.008 and the temp to 84. I believe it is either a swim bladder infection, intestional blockage or kidney problems.

Since then he has seemed to stay the same. He's upside down on the bottom of the tank. Breathing at a normal rate. When I check the temp or anything in the tank he gets aggitated and will swim around. When he swims to the top he can flip himself over and stay like that for a while. He has also spit at me. When I put food in the tank though, regardless of what it is, he shows no interest. No other signs of stress though.

I have an appointment on Monday with a vet to have him looked at. Any other suggestions? Is their anything that I can do that I havent already done? I have had bad luck with using chemicals on my fish and was wondering if anyone has any other ideas or things that I could do that Might help before I take it to the vet, but I have just run out of ideas.

If he was having Kidney problems would he have lived for a week already?

Since you are going to the vet on Monday it would be best not to medicate in case what the vet uses is antagonistic to what you use.

ok, thanks.

Just a Follow up. After the fish got home from the vet we got some antibiotics, some crushed Koi food and a cathiter for cats.

We tube fed him everyday for about two weeks, he sort of peaked after the first week, but he would start to eat on his own, but still wasn't swimming fully on his own, I fed him a few peas (a laxitave) and he seemed to do really well after that. I learned that constipation, swim bladder infections and kidney problems all give the same appearance... so... it might have been a little bit of the infection and the constipation after he started eating again, but no telling. At any rate, he is fine and doing well the last I heard.

Glad he made it.
