My 10" Arowana (Leichardti) loves to overeat in a mixed community 160g tank. Overall he looks great, swims around (near surface more than usual though) but for a week now he is breathing heavily (w/ gill plate and mouth opening). He also has not eaten in a week (usually has a great appetite of market prawns and smelt) and now looks slightly bloated. Today, he has a slight tear in one of his pectoral fins. When I first noticed the heavy breathing, I changed 60% of the water, added a powerhead (w/ tubing to produce bubbles ) to increase O2. It didn't help, so I added aquarium salt (1 tablespoon to 5G) and increased to temp from 82F to 85F. This all has not helped. The other fishes (bichir, clown loaches) are doing fine. I've had other fished die (Bichirs, Tigrinus, etc ) within the last 2 months that start off breathing heavy, no appetite, then weaken, get bloated and die. The water parameters are all okay. I'm frustrated, just want to save this fish, never overfed again and never buy any more fish!!!

Is it a general infection or parasites or flukes of some sort? Should I treat the whole tank or place the arrowana in a hospital tank.? Please help!!

melafix n primafix(both natural), use aquasol
melafix- baterial
primafix- fungus
aqualsol- parasite

all at once to be sure

The tear in the fin means nothing.

Do a good water change. Check the params. Keep the tank well aerated. And do not feed for a week.

What are you feeding the fish? Are they all eating the same foods?

I would wait a week a try some new foods, like pellets or bugs.
