I recently moved my male betta to a 3.5 gallon filtered tank to help him recover from a moderate case of fin rot. The tank really didn't get to proprely cycle given my time and space requirements but has been up and running for about 3 weeks now. Water numbers look within safe limits. The fish was doing markedly better and is now doing poorly again, listless, barely eating. I've also noticed, which may or may not be coincidence, some white stuff that may or may not be algae in the tank. It tends to grow on surfaces like the heater and thermometer, is kind of slimy and clear. and comes off in sheets if touched which then float around the water and eventually sink into the rocks. Since the slime/algae started being really noticable around the same time my betta took a turn for the worse I can't help but think they are related. I have tried to search online for this kind of growth in the tank but no sites seem t olist anything that sounds like it. Does anyone know what this is? Could it be harmful to my fish? regardless of its harm, is there a good way to remove it? (Ideally a compatible tank mate to eat it?)
