A buddy of mine has a veiled chameleon, and he's has him for 4 months now. He has always been fed properly, and has a really nice cage set-up. We had a room-mate look after him since the rest of us were leaving for spring break.

He came back and the chameleon was somewhat active the first day back, Saturday, as well as Sunday, but today he found him on his side on the ground of the case not looking well at all. He called up a few LFS and they said the chameleon was probably dehydrated. He went ahead and gave him alot of water today, which he took eagerly. He had the strength to climb back on to his plants, but he felt back down again just a few moments ago. He plans on taking him to the vet tomorrow, but I figured I could ask on here for MFK's advice.

Its hard to say, veiled chams are usually very hardy. I have had one for years now. I would say look at its eyes. Chams only sleep at night and if he is closing its eyes during daylight hours there is a severe problem. Also look for any discharge from its vent or eyes. also look to if its tounge is fully rolled up or feel the stomach of the animal he could have eaten some of its substrate. good luck hope it gets better for you.

After he gave him the water today he had the strength to climb up a stick, but fell back down in the dirt about a half hour later. More information, if anyone can tell anything from it.

Thanks for the response stonecat, he's definitely been weak with keeping his eyes fully-opened, but there is no noticeable discharges.

whats your set-up temp? day and night
what kind of light?

Day ranged between 80-85, with night around 70. There is an all-spectrum light, as well as a heat lamp which he climbs too during the day.

im thinking this has something to do with his kidneys

get him

-a fisical

-a fecal analysis (get the freshest sample of his ****, stick it in a plastic bag and give it to the vet, dont feel awkward they will know what to do)

and a blood test

the owner, col pumpinrear, went ahead and made an account. the situation outcome can be found on his thread. hopefully chameleonie makes it through, the vet said the next 24 hours were crucial.
