My convict has been hiding a lot lately, not feeding as much; just generally very reclusive. Hadn't thought too much of it until tonight when I was gravel vaccing under ornaments etc and he just lay on his side, and hasn't moved since.

I had a problem with parasites ages ago, and this was the first thing that came to mind...water parameters are 0 ammonia 0 nitrites, 10ppm nitrates.

Tankmates are tiger barbs, danios and a JD (3 inches), only aggression usually comes from the con but he's been reclusive

Cheers

how old is he? some times fish just die for no reason. cichlids usually pretty hardy but it happens. i would move to a hospital tank,as much to quarantine as help him out.

He's only a year old, if that, about 3-4 inches long. I feed bloodworm, flake, prawn, and cichlid pellets.

Can parasites lay dormant for months before recurring?

if the tank itself was not treated, or full coarse not ran certainly possible. like any antibiotic or pesticide treatment always finish the full coarse.

Convicts became a breeding problem in a few of my tanks when I first started and there a bit worthless where I am. I get it that people like them just not for me. Any improvements with yours?

I do not like them because they small Arse holes by nature, I prefer larger cihclids , Jags, JD and Oscars. jag and JD have there own tanks, oscar fine with other none cichlid fish. sun cat, BGN blue eyed gibby pleco in the 180.

Lol! Quite true I guess.

He's not lying down anymore, but still very reclusive, won't come out to feed; hiding under bit of driftwood. Usually he made sure to chase the JD but this stopped quite a few days ago now that I think of it. My best guess just now is parasites. One of my giant danios looks to have dropsy too. Urgggg
