Hello folks. One of the main reasons I registered today was to try and get some help from some people with much more knowledge on this subject than myself!! I currently have a fire eel approximately 11-12 inches long housed in a 55 gallon. He has recently developed odd white splotches in his skin.I don't think it's ick and the white coloration doesn't seem to be a growth but an actual discoloration of his skin.He seems perfectly healthy and continues to eat nightcrawlers, bloodworm and ghost shrimp like a horse. He or she(not sure) is my better halfs hand fed baby and she is really worried about him. Please any help will be much appreciated!!I am working on getting some pics posted up because I know this will be of much more help.Thank you all for your time and any help I may receive!!

are you sure he just isnt brushing against anything and scraping his skin off? but then if that was true it would heal up in a couple of days. how long has he had this for?

Hey neervana thanx for the reply. He has had these spots for about a week.I don't think they are scrapes because he had got in the filter when he was smaller and was able to get into the impeller and he got pretty roughed up then and those wounds went away fairly quickly.I will try to get some better pix. Thanks again.

My first guess was scrapes as well. My fire eel will get some on occasion, usually towards his head as he will try to burrow under a rock then give up.

Hey scooby,

Check nitrate levels in the tank to make sure that they are zero. Sometimes this can cause spots to appear. Do they appear on his belly? Remember that eels are covered in a protective slime, and excrete it in certain areas that are damaged, so it could be simply slime buildup as a result of something else.

When I had gravel in my 100G, my fire eel got scratched up all the time, resulting in white spots. Keep a close eye on it, and hope it heals up soon. It can take up to about two weeks to go away.

Best of luck!

Hey guys thanks for the replies.I think it's just a matter of him just gettin scraped up a little. The bad areas seem to be getting better!! Thanks again!!
