Hi!

I have been trying to keep fire eels for over a year now, without any luck, and I’m about to give up.
For the last year or so, I have lost around 10 fire eels. I have bought a new one everytime one have died.
After 2-3 months in the aquarium the fire eel gets a lump growing on the stomach. Its always the same type of big purple lump. When I first notice the lump, the fire eel usually dies within a week. It always grow big very quickly. The other fish I keep is healthy.
I use sand as substrate. A lot of hiding places, roots, and plants for the eels to hide.

I have have a 600 litre (158 gallon) tank.
I change 50-60% of the water ones a week, and always add Seachem Stability and Prime.
I always check to make sure that the water parameters are good.
I keep the water temperature around 26°. I feed them shrimp, frozen Brine shrimp, blood worms and frozen trout fillet. I also have my air pump running 16 hours a day.
Fluval FX4 filter that I clean every 4 months.

Yesterday another one died. I found another one dead today. Unfortunately, the last fire eel that i have, have the same type of lump growing on its stomach.
Can somebody please explain what is going on?

Other fish in the aquarium:

5 Bala Sharks
2 gold fish(not sure what kind)
5 Corydoras aeneus
1 Lesser Spiny Eel
4 Clown Loaches
2 Gibbiceps
2 Black Ghost

Actually, I have never seen any of them eating ever
Possibly struggled to eat or was out competeted for food.
If you decide to get another Fire Eel start it off in a aquarium alone. You should always quarantine fish so that will give you the opportunity to see if they are healthy and eating. I would also made sure the Fire Eel ate what the other fish are eating.

Thank you! I will try it.
The fire eels are known for not eating the first months kept in an aquarium. They usually eat at night time when everything is dark
