I have some guppies that are suffering/recovering from fin/tail rot. I have lost several in that tank and am medicating them with maracyn & m2.

One of them had about 20+ fry last night, and of all of them, only 10 were normal. 2 of those were eaten before we could move her to a breeding tank. So, I have 8 fry left.

I immediately moved the 8 fry to a 2.5 gallon tank with heater and air bubbler set on low. I added a very small amount of salt (not even covering bottom of scoop). They seem to be swimming fine. I was reluctant to move them into my fry tank because of the mother having the disease. She died later this morning. I guess the stress was too much for her.

1) Assuming these fry live (and that's a big hope), how long do they need isolated in this tank before I can move them in with my other fry? Should I just leave them in this tank while they grow out? It isn't an inconvenience having them in this one, as I am tearing down a 20 gallon on my dresser and can move them up there. I have learned my lesson and keep 2 5 gallon tanks cycled at all times (zebra danios) and can put them in there when they are bigger.

2) I plan on doing a 2 cup water change every day on these guys and feeding them my mix of fry food and milk. (My fry food has all kinds of regular flakes/seaweed/cyclops/shrimp and more). After 2 weeks, I plan on adding a small sponge filter to their tank, if I keep them in it. Does this sound right?

3) I am not going to medicate them at all.

The 8 fry seem to be doing well. I still have the little bubbler going, but upped it a little bit today as they are swimming well.
Feeding them fry milk 1-2 times daily and the powder fry food. Changed their water this morning and again tonight as the milk made the water very cloudy.

Day 3 and they are all doing okay so far. I guess I will go ahead and keep them in the 2.5 gallon until they are at least juveniles and then see how they are.

As of today, they are all swimming fine and eating good as far as I can tell. Tomorrow I will add a sponge filter in their tank. They are learning quickly that the light on means feeding time ;)
