Hi, please excuse my severe lack of fish knowledge before I post this! I have what I think is a goldfish which has been fine for around 5 years now.

Recently he started lying on the bottom of the tank and this has now deteriorated into him not being able to swim atall. He still tries to eat and tries to move but cannot get off the ground. He doesn't look like he is sick at all apart from the obvious problem of not being able to swim. He just lays on his side on the bottom doing nothing hour after hour!

I have checked a lot of forums to try and find an answer. Could a problem with the swim bladder be the cause? I have hand fed him peas as suggested in a lot of posts, which he eats, but this doesn't seem to have helped.

He has now been in this predicament for around 2 weeks.

All 5 other fish in the tank are fine and have all lived together for some time.

There is a filter and air pump and plenty of space for them all.

Like I said, no sign of illness or disease other than his inability to swim.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Dan.

Hiya Danadamsa, if it is a swim bladder disease you could use Maracyn Plus or Binox.

Jungle also makes an antibiotic food that might work, just make sure it is not the antiparasite one
