Hey there guys,

I purchased a trio of blue dolphins a few months ago and one was real bad condition upon arriving home.
I did not add to display tank and quarantine for 4 weeks and medicated with melafix as he had wounds and looked like he had been bullied in previous owners tank.
He seemed to start looking better, his wounds healed and started to eat again. He was introduced into the main tank thinking he was just thinner and would get healthy again though he didn't get better so i assumed he might have had internal parasites.
He eventually died so i opened him up to see if i could see any parasites or anything that might have caused this.
I found his intestines were filled up with these cyst like growths? spores?

Does anyone know what this might be and if there is a chance it has spread to other fish in the main tank or even multiplying in the sand and filter media?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Water was a little cloudy due to just doing a water change and dissolving salts.

I can upload photos of cyst/spores i found inside if anyone wants to see, not sure if i should upload them right away i understand some people might not want to see that.

Post the pics. Could be internal parasites from the description. Maybe found the eggs. Could transmit from the feces or shedding. Keep nitrates below 20ppm. Dose some levamisole to the tank with repeat dosing.

Thanks for your reply knot4te, ill post the pics now. Ill try get some levamisole hopefully its not like other medications here in Australia.

I was hoping to try the epsom salt fish food soak incase its hexamita, while i wait for some api general cure as ive noticed some of my fish from the same tank are starting to show red on the base of their pectoral fins. Though im not sure if its the same thing?

Anyone know what this is?
No way to truly know. Could be nematode eggs or some type of cysts. Vet can look at it and under a microscope to find out.

Have no clue but I’d be surprised if parasite eggs are that large. Maybe it had tumors/cysts. Whatever it was, it didn’t have that healthy glow and looked sickly in that pic. As for the others, before you throw a bunch of meds, try bettering the water quality first. Red at the base of the fins could be a mild bacterial infection so lots of water changes are in order
