Brought home some new fish for my community tank and turns out they are all sick. Pet smart made it sound like they got ick from me bringing them home but I went back and checked the tank I bought them from and all of them in their tank are looking sick. I guess I should have looked at them closer but I had bought 2 a couple days before and they were fine and it was in a tank up above my head. I had bought some other fish from other tanks as well that were fine, but did not notice the problem until they were in my community tank.......Have been doing the ick treatment as directed but am losing about a fish a day. When confronted, the associate made it clear that while it was their fault and they should not have been selling sick fish, it it now my problem, sold me ick treatment and left it at that. I have spent a lot of money there over the years as it is next to my house and we have a lot of pets. I kinda feel they should have provided me with the medicine to treat this as it came from their tanks. On the other hand, I should have been more cautious and looked at them more closely. I guess I was lulled into a false sense of security as I had bought other fish there and not had a problem. I do think I will stop shopping there now because I thought the associate was rude about it and when I complained about it and pointed out their tank of sick fish.I felt like they were condecending about it and I have shopped there for a long time and a lot of the associates know me by name..... I am very angry and would rather go elsewhere at this point.

I think everyone gets Ich at some point in their fish keeping hobby career. Just bump the temp up in your tank to 80F and add some salt and keep up on the water changes. Never lost a fish to ich and when I buy fish that do have it I view it as more of a nuisance then getting nervous about if the fish will pull through or not.

Also if you haven't setup a quarantine tank yet then I'd suggest looking to get one sooner rather then later for sick fish or new purchases.

I now suspect that there was something worse than ick going on as a few hours after I posted this all the fish in the tank died. I am totally furious. Am thankful it was not my bichir tank , but I lost some lovely fish........I lost 2 skeleton cats, 2 upside down cats, 4 bleeding heart tetras, 1 sunset gourami, 2 black and red loaches, 2 hatchetfish and 3 neon tetras..........Very sad about this.
