Hey everyone. I have a 55 gallon long tank with a rena filstar xp2 with just replaced microfiltration pad and carbon. It has been running on the established tank for a few weeks. I have an 8 in senegalus bichir and two cherry parrots at around 2 - 3 inches each. :)

My bichir is the most active I have ever seen out of the fish I have bought throughout my fishkeeping hobby.:grinno: HOWEVER!:nilly: My two parrots look like they are ailing horribly. Both of them seem to sort of breathe hard and fins move very quickly or really slowly at times. They both sit on the gravel, and they sort of lean towards one side, like they are dead. What could be WRONG?! :nilly:

My Ph is around 7.0 after dipping some crushed coral in there. and I did a 70 percent water change a day ago. Could it be the water? My bichir seems happy and fine :) but I think thats because it also breathes air.

When I stay reallly still, they move for a little while but then after that, they go back to the corner of the tank with a hole in the gravel. They only eat flakes once they float down near their face but other than that, they just sit leaning in the gravel.

Please help!

I used to have a hydro sponge # 10 - made to filter up to 130 gallons and a large silica airstone.. I took them out because the fish would never come out because I think they were scared of the sounds and such

Even if your tank is cycled, it might have gone into a mini cycle with the removal of filter media.

I've asked before, what how high is the ammonia level?

Well, now that I bought a Master Freshwater Test Kit, here are the readings.

Ph - 6.8
Nitrate - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Ammonia - 0 ppm

Isnt this a good thing that all these are 0? or is it a bad thing?
So what could be wrong with my fish.

I have already tried to change water flow by redirecting the output of the filter but my bps are still on the floor sort of
