Hi, I have had my flowerhorn (3" ZZ) for 3 months now. When I got him, he had hexamita, and I was able treat that. After the treatment, he started to become really perky and has been on a steady growth incline, nice big kok (for a 3"), and beautiful pearls. A couple of days ago, he started freaking out anytime anyone was around and kept on hiding either behind the heater or under his cave. His kok shrunk, and is often displaying stress bars.

I did a 25% water change, and water conditions are good. I also checked for Ick or symptoms of a hexamita relapse. Doesn't look like any of those. What could be a possible reason for this? Thanks.

Yessir. pH is at 7. I always keep it at that, and he seems to be happy with it. Until a couple of days ago.

There must be something new around that he's not used to. Maybe something outside the tank he can notice and insecure about.. Can be stranger person he's never seen or the way you enter the room. IDK..

they are still living things that have their senses. just helping to narrow it down to why he's like that.

I have noticed this with other FH. They get skittish suddenly for no reason, and are back to normal in a couple of days. I do a 40% water change and add salt!

Sounds like you've checked your water parameters and things seem ok. One suggestion for you...check your water temperature. I maintain 82-86 F.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have been watching all params, added salt. My temp is at a constant 82. He hasn't really improved yet, however he left his "cave for the first time in 3 days today, but is still hiding behind the filter bar.

I agree my male has been skittish for about a week but has gotten better in the past couple days after a w/c.
